On January 20, 1989 President Reagan completed his eight years as President of the United States and to show our appreciation for a job well done, a few of his friends and supporters organized a welcome home celebration at the Los Angeles Airport (LAX). The organizers of the celebration included Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley and friends of the Reagan’s including Joyce and Jim Van Schaack. There were three marching bands, lots of press, the “Just Say No” kids and hundreds of invited guests. Marilyn Monroe had a fascinating, yet tragic life. Marilyn was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson in 1926 and she lived off and on in an orphanage and in foster homes where she was often sexually abused. Her mother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and eventually permanently hospitalized. Norma married for the first time when she was 16 to avoid being returned to the orphanage. Read moreThe Pan-Pacific Auditorium was built in Los Angeles, California. It opened on May 18, 1935. This video shares digital artist, Jim Van Schaacks rendition of the Pan-Pacific Auditorium as well as photos. Sports events, conventions and shows of all kinds took place in the Pan-Pacific Auditorium. When Los Angeles built new facilities in 1972, the Pan-Pacific Auditorium was closed. Over time the building was trashed. The Pan-Pacific Auditorium’s final day came on May 24, 1989, 6 days after its 54th Anniversary with one of Los Angeles most spectacular fires.
