Dedication of the Saddleback College Veterans Memorial took place on April 29, 2010. The Marine Corp Band from Camp Pendelton entertained. The colors were posted and those responsible for the creation of the Veterans Memorial were recognized. A flag the flew over the United States Capitol and in Vietnam was hoisted for the first time over the Memorial. Many Veterans and representatives of Veterans organization attended the dedication. After the dedication everyone visited the memorial. The Saddleback College Veterans Memorial is wonderful to visit during the day and very beautiful at night.

In 1979 Jim Van Schaack and Joyce Van Schaack visited Scotland. On their way to tour Edinburgh they saw a piper on the road side. Among other things, they visited Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott, the Scottish the novelist, poet and historian. They enjoyed visiting Edinburgh Castle and Loch Ness, but they didn’t see the Loch Ness Monster. He’s in there somewhere, though.

In November 1979 Jim Van Schaack and Joyce Van Schaack and friends, the Miller’s and the Benner’s were invited by the government of the Republic of China on Tawain to spend two weeks touring Taiwan. They stayed at the Grand Hotel in Taipei. They visited a school in Taipei and talked with teachers and students about the United States and the Republic of China on Taiwan. They then attended a conference on business development in Taiwan. They visited several government building in Taipei and then visited the National Palace Museum and lunched with the Director. In the summer of 1989, Jim Van Schaack and Joyce Van Schaack visited Venice Italy. They went to St. Marks Square and visited St. Marks Basilica. They went to the Doges Palace and the Grand Canal, seeing the Bridge of Sighs and the Rialto Bridge. The visited the Murano glass shop and watched a woman making carnival masks. They discovered many fine places to eat and had a wonderful trip exploring Venice.

Jim and Joyce Van Schaack’s trip to Louisville Kentucky includes visiting the grand old homes in Louisville Kentucky. WARM. They visit the Louisville Slugger baseball bat factory and take their photo with the world’s largest baseball bat. Wow, that’s a big bat!!! They also visit the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Muhammad Ali Center building. At the Kentucky Derby people enjoy Mint Juleps, fancy hats and fast horses. VERY COOL.
